The same patience and preparation a hard climb demands is what I bring to your technology.
Born and raised in Seattle, I earned my doctorate in Reproductive Biology — with a minor in Anatomy — in the Department of Biological Structure at the University of Washington School of Medicine in 1982. The "Dr." is real.
After two years in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at Colorado State University, I joined the faculty in the Department of Anatomy at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (University of North Texas) in 1984 — the move that first brought me to Fort Worth. Teaching anatomy to first-year medical students is where "Dr. Bob" stuck.
My research generated enormous amounts of data, analyzed on mainframes long before the personal computer existed. A scientist documents everything — and that habit became the heart of how I serve clients. After every visit, you get a detailed record of exactly what was done.
In 1991 I left academics to work as a systems engineer for a local computer retailer, hands on every kind of machine. On September 1, 1995, I founded Bourdage Consulting — built on long-term relationships and referrals. Many of my clients are now friends of 20+ years.
Today I'm returning to my programming roots: building web solutions that change how my clients run their businesses — not vanity sites, but systems that make them more efficient and more capable.

A lifetime of precise, hands-on work led here: procuring corneas for transplant for the Lions Eye Bank, assisting the King County Medical Examiner with autopsies, forensic photography, evidence collection, and specimen prep, and analyzing blood samples in a serology lab.
(And yes — once upon a time, washing dishes in an Indian restaurant.)
A scientist documents everything. After each visit you receive detailed notes on exactly what was done to your computers, networks, routers, and printers — yours to keep, and the reason clients trust the work over decades.
From the research lab to a lifetime of solving people's technology problems.
PhD in Reproductive Biology with a minor in Anatomy — Department of Biological Structure, UW School of Medicine. Even then, technology was at the center of it — our research group's engineers built one of the first portable computers, packed into a Samsonite suitcase with its own wireless network.
Dissertation: "Mechanisms of Control of Ovum Transport through the Oviductal Isthmus and into the Cornu in Rabbits" — Robert Joseph Bourdage, 1982.
Department of Physiology and Biophysics. Teamed up with a brilliant engineer to design and build circuit boards for my data-collection needs, and taught other post-docs and graduate students about DOS and CP/M computers.
Joined the Department of Anatomy at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine — UNT's medical school campus in Fort Worth — where teaching first-year medical students is how "Dr. Bob" stuck. I built the school's first computer labs and pioneered computer-based medical education, including self-testing programs that recorded not just a student's answers, but exactly how they took the test. That data let me separate test-taking skill from real content knowledge — then coach students to change the habits quietly holding their scores back, turning strugglers into strong students. The work caught Apple's attention — I became an early Apple Consulting Educator, traveling the country teaching teachers how to educate with computers.
Left academics for a local computer retailer — hands on every kind of Mac and custom-built PC, working with computer hardware and software across multiple platforms.
Built on long-term relationships and referrals — including networking with other business people for over 20 years, and founding, with business associates, a successful business networking group in September 2020. Many clients are now friends.
Returning to my programming roots — custom web solutions that make clients more efficient and more capable.
I grew up in Seattle and spent much of my youth in the Cascade and Olympic ranges — summers and winters scuba diving, hiking, snow skiing, and climbing. I've summited Washington's major peaks, several of them more than once, plus many lesser ones. This is Mount Rainier, one of my favorite climbs.
I've called Fort Worth home since 1984, though I still miss the mountains. So the mountains are my heritage, unfortunately not my destination — Bourdage Consulting serves Fort Worth & North Central Texas. But the patience, the preparation, and the respect for a hard route are exactly what I bring to you and your technology.
A real person, a quick reply.
