Keep using the email app you know

Switching to Fastmail doesn’t mean changing how you check your email. On your computer, phone, and tablet, you can keep the programs you already know — or move to the free Fastmail apps. Either way, I’ll set up each of your devices for you.

On every device — your choice

Your email is probably set up on your computer, your phone, and your tablet. On all of them you have two easy options, and I’ll handle the setup either way:

  • Keep what you use today — Outlook, Apple Mail, the Mail app on your phone, Thunderbird. I’ll connect each one to Fastmail so it keeps working just as it does now.
  • Move to the free Fastmail apps — free for computer, iPhone, iPad, and Android. Follow the install guides for your devices, or just ask and I’ll set up each one.

Mix and match is fine. You don’t have to choose the same thing everywhere — keep Outlook on your office computer and use the Fastmail app on your phone, if you like. Just tell me how you’d like each device set up.

Wherever you are: the web

No matter which apps you choose, you can always reach your email from a web browser — handy on a borrowed or public computer, or when you’re away from your own devices.

What’s a “web browser”? It’s simply the program you already use to visit websites — Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox. To check your mail this way, open that program and type fastmail.com at the top.

Which password do I use?

This is the one part that trips people up, so here it is in plain terms. It depends only on how you’re opening your email:

  • Fastmail app or a web browser → use your Fastmail password, the one we agreed on when I created your account. This is the only password you need to remember.
  • Outlook, Apple Mail, and other desktop apps → these use a separate password that I set up and store securely. Your app remembers it, so you’ll never have to type or recall it.

I’ll set it all up — and keep it working. Connecting your app to Fastmail is something I take care of during setup; there’s nothing technical for you to do. If your app ever stops sending or receiving, don’t fuss with the settings — just call me.
